Wouldn’t it be wonderful to walk around and take pictures in a place where myths, battles, tropical beaches and locations meet at a magical point in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea? In a place where Asia and Africa try to touch Europe at its lowest part? This location is the island of Crete. Ancient and early history are beyond you and every single corner is full of stories, photographic locations and unique experiences!
Crete’s history is full of battles for freedom against the Venetians, Turks and Germans. Crete is the place where the Minoan civilisation flourished and it is believed that the Minoans were the first to have contributed to the creation of classical Greece.
We would like to present you the short history of Crete that has eleven main periods: Minoan, Subminoan, Geometric and Archaic period, Classical, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, the Turkish period and the modern times.
Attending Alexandro’s workshop in Crete was one of the most amazing experiences in my life. Although Crete is well known to be a fantastic place we were able to visit and photograph unique spots that are mostly unknown to the visitors. Everything was well planned (as given in the detailed schedule on the website) and there was no discomfort for any of us. Although the group’s photography ability varied, Alexandros was able to offer his knowledge giving everyone the possibility to achieve more and more in photography. He is really a master when it comes to photography and not only. He was the beating heart of the group and the ideal guide for that kind of experience.
If you like photography and traveling go for it! I was part of Alexandros Petrakis photography workshop in Crete few months ago and I still haven’t decided what I enjoyed the most. Photo shooting in one of Greece’s most beautiful islands while eating amazing food, swimming and learning technical details about shooting or processing. The pictures I took and processed there (especially the night ones) are really magical. There is actually no better way to improve your photography knowledge while being among nice people (especially Alexandros) in fantastic places.
Although not a master in photography I managed to make beautiful images capturing the moment’s feeling since Alexandros was there to guide every one of our steps. One of the most interesting parts of the workshop (which I actually didn’t expect) was the detailed technical knowledge I acquired. Staying on the beach till late to observe (or even sleep if you wished) while drinking wine, exploring unknown paths during sunrise, drinking coffee above the sunset are just few of those magical moments we shared. Thank you again!
I never thought that sunrise and sunset can be captured in an image in such a way. The landscape pictures taken during Crete’s workshop were absolutely amazing. And the most important thing is that they were taken and processed by me!
